The Theotokos!

The Dormition of the Theotokos (August 15)

A Virgin, thou dost stand as the Queen of all at the right hand of the throne of our God who is king of all. Thou art clothed in brightness of immortality since to the heavenly places thou wast taken up.

As we begin the Dormition Fast (August 1-14), we prepare ourselves in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos whose falling asleep in the Lord we will celebrate on August 15th.  The following information is meant to provide you with information about the Fast and Feast of the Dormition, as well as fasting guidelines which are attached to this email. It is traditional that the Paraklesis Service (click here) be chanted each evening (except on Saturday evening, the eve of the Transfiguration, and the eve of Dormition) as the parish has strength to do so.

The Fast begins on August 1st.

On August 6th, in the midst of the Dormition Fast, we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord. More information on the Feast of Transfiguration can be found by (clicking here).  The fasting discipline on the Feast of Transfiguration is that fish, wine, and oil are permitted, but not meat, dairy products, or eggs.
